My Name

I love my name. I love the way it sounds. I love the spelling. And I’m very proud of it. Thx mum, dad and sis JM.
I actually despised my name during my younger days, especially the Jess Shynn part, I always wanted it to be ‘jessshynn’, so it sounds more cool, english like? I also don’t know why. But with 3 ‘s’ in the middle it’s quite a headache and even now i still double check when I type my email address to make sure that there are 3 ‘s’ instead of 2. I gradually came to embrace and accept my name for whatever unknown reasons when I was err… in form 1, 13 years old, first year of secondary school.

But I don’t think my name loves me. Spelling mistakes always occur, since primary schools. On my cerfiticates, namelists, registers, or anywhere you might get to see my name but I think the chances are small, because it’s not my name anymore when it’s spelled wrongly.

Some of the spelling error I can remember:

Ngoh Jess Shyn
Ngoh Jess Shin
Ngoh Jes Shynn
Ngo Jess Shynn

And the latest mis-spelling incident that I encountered was last week during the Mighty Minds state challenge. And the most drastic change so far.

” NGAH JESS SAYAN”

Hello! I’m Ngoh Jess Shynn… Ngah Jess Sayan.

It just sounds hilarrious and nonsensical. And so not me.

And How I wish that people would just spell my name right.

Btw, WordPress app for Andriod sucks to the max… blehh><

Review : The Hunger Games (Movie and Trilogy)

I first watched The Hunger Games movie trailer on Youtube, during last November, thanks to my sister who is a big fan of Josh Hutcherson since his appearance in Zathura.

I was fascinated by the trailer, although it didn’t review much of the plot, and immediately, I Googled “The Hunger Games”, and of course, I was directed to Wikipedia. I read up the summaries for all the three books, and the plot caught my attention. In an instant, I knew that the books would be worth reading (  I’m quite outdated since the first book was already published in 2008.)

Since then, I searched for the books every time I visit my Popular bookstore, but alas, they weren’t in sight anywhere. It was December and when I was in Kuala Lumpur, I finally found the books in Popular Ikano (still not in box set yet), a few days before I was going to leave for my Jenesys Japan trip and I regretted for the rest of the holiday (after returning from Japan) for not buying the books as I was back in Kuantan and I didn’t know how long will it take for Popular Kuantan to bring in the books. ( and it took 2 and the half months for that).

It was just February when I remember getting all excited after hearing news from my sister that the books were in store, and I went to get it the next day. ( I was having my exam week during that time).

And it was the very week I started reading the first book – The Hunger Games, then Catching Fire and the last one Mockingjay. ( For the last book, I try not to finish it in two days, because I did not intend to finish it off quickly, so that it can spare me for a few more days. And it was very hard for me, and in the end, I couldn’t bear it anymore.) And yes, finishing the series made me very emotional.

So, back to the point. The reviews.

The books.

This story is very different from previous books that I’ve read. I like the whole idea of it. It is fresh and new to me. Suzanne Collins has a great writing style, and I love the way she ends every chapter, which always left me pining for more, until the last chapter. The storyline is very well plotted and very different from others, with lots of suspense instilled to it. Flipping through the pages, it can sometimes be nerve-wrecking. The protagonist, Katniss really shines out, and Suzanne Collins’s intelligent way of writing made me feel for her. And surely, romance would also fill in the story. But in this case, the romance part doesn’t outshine the main themes, but it is still one of the attraction in this story and Petaa’s love for Katniss really touched my heart. The concept of The Hunger Games was brought out in the book, with it’s solid description, and the idea was clearly and easily received and it succeeded in conveying Suzanne Collins’ messages to the readers.

After finishing the first book, I wonder how Catching Fire would continue the story. Surely, the ending of book one pulled my heart’s strings, and I was eager to find out what’s going to happen between Peeta and Katniss. The second book is as good as the first, with new elements installed in it. Going through the sequel, there is always more to come. The plot is well-driven as usual, the suspense is still there and more ideas have popped up. New characters are also introduced and the rebellion is getting stronger.

Mockingjay, the last in the series, answer all questions that arised in me. How would the Hunger Games end? Who did Katniss choose in the end? It is in this last book where the characters were transformed and they were different from the first book in certain points. It is where the unexpected happened. A war bursts out and people come and go.I like the parts during and after the execution of Presiedent Snow, and how the author twists the story again and again. This trilogy is indeed unlike others, even till its ending. From my view, the ending is neither happy nor sad. It’s not a perfect ending, as there will never be perfect endings. It is the one that satisfies me, the one still that gives me a resolution, the one that makes me feel contented.

To sum it all up, The Hunger Games trilogy is absolutely worthy of your time. Be prepared to immerse in the world of the Hunger games, and be impressed by Suzzane Collins’s style of writing and language. Thank you, Suzzane, from bringing this masterpiece to the world.

The movie.

I watched The Hunger Games on the first day, and ended up staying up till 1 in the morning to finished all my homework and waked up for school 5 hours later.

The movie runs for 2 hours and 23 minutes, still loyal to the book, although there were some additions and cuts here and there. The makeup and wardrobe for the capitol’s residents is amazing, and the colours are a feast for my eyes. Katniss was very well portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence, together with Josh Hutcherson as Peeta and Liam Hemsworth as Gale. The choice of casts is perfect, and played their part just right. The character are well presented, with the right costume and the right look. The movie is not draggy, and my sister was all anxious during the whole time, but not me. ( I’ll tell you why later). Gary Ross brought the book to the screen in his own way with his genius mind, and the scenes in the arena, especially the beginning of the games, where all the tributes rushing to the cornucopia really stands out. Under his direction, the movie has gone on the right track. Furthermore, the movie posters and the official website are absolutely fantastic, and the characters posters are just perfect!

And so, why wasn’t I all hyped out anxious during the movie?

It’s just because I’ve read the book, and I already know what is happening and what will happen except the part where a mutt suddenly jumped out, which also made me jumped in my seat.

I was happy and satisfied with the movie. It made my day! I loved it but I might have expected too much. Its magnificently crafted by Gary Ross, and with the first book crammed into a 2 and 1/2  hours, it was good enough for me. I enjoyed it a lot, especially with Jennifer Lawrence’s skillful acting and also the other main characters which made it a movie with high quality. Thank you once again, to Gary Ross for bringing The Hunger Games to the screens.

For the books, I’ll rate it 5 out of 5, while for the movie, 4.5 out of 5.

The  Hunger Games will always stay in my heart and be a part in my life.

The Girl on Fire and The Boy with the Bread are indeed unforgettable characters.

Did you realise?

If you were to sleep 8 hours a day,
1/3 of your life would be wasted.
For a good night’s sleep.

And now you realise it.
Or maybe you’ve already realised which makes me the dumb and outdated one.

And l’ll bet that 8 hours would be enough for me.

I sacrificed almost two hour of my last minute revision, made my way to Popular and finally got my hands on The Hunger Games trilogy, and the next day I almost flunk my Maths paper the next day. Which i shall not mention how and why.

So, as I finished my last paper yesterday, I began to read the first chapter full of excitement. And i was totally engrossed in it. Due to my hectic schedule, i stayed up until midnight and read most of it and ended up in a sleepy mode during the two hours of physics tuition today. I was so excited when i finally finished the last and bits of book one.

Catching Fire comes after The Hunger Game.
I was eager to continue the story as when the first book ends, i find myself yearning for more.
Then the unexpected happen.
When i reached pg 26, I feel like i was robbed.  I want sixteen of my pages back!! Give them back to me and don’t expect me to jump to pg46. Seriously.
Well, if i knew earlier,  i would spare some chapters in book one for tomorrow, and i would get to sleepe earlier.

Still, i am going to change it tomorrow.
But how am i supposed to survive in school?
I need that book!

Anyway, The Hunger Games is definitely a good read, and it’s worth your time with its fresh storyline, amazing suspense and beautiful language, and the adventure awaits you.

Resolutions again and Craps

Actually I was intending to blog a teeny tiny part of my trip in Japan, but instead I spend the past hour chatting through FB, and losing two rounds of Tetris Battle.. I didn’t know he was a level 60!became 61 after defeating me =( I was a level 8 then.. and now too.  Speaking of Tetris Battle, I got addicted to it since my last visit to my little cousins house, which is also on the New Year’s Eve.

Getting addicted to FB games really sucked and sucks!

Okay back to the point, since I wanted a quicker post, so let’s talk about my 2012 resolutions and January Resolutions. ( It seems useless because I never achieved 50% for the past few years) So I came up with this: Since I may not achieve my annual goals, I may as well console myself with my montly goals.

So here it goes:

RESOLUTIONS FOR THE YEAR 2012

1. Return to 47 kg = exercise more. as usual.

2. Read more books. as usual.

3. Always keep my closet and desks organised. as usual.

4. Computer only on weekends and Friday. Weekdays exemptions only due to emergenices and certain circumstances. Erm.. so what’s considered as emergenices and certain circumstances?

5. Study harder. No more lazing around. as usual.

6. Get a school life. Seriously.

7.  Keep my room tidy! If I sucessfully get my own room.

8. Stay in touch with friends from Jenesys and my host parents.

9. Spend less. as usual

10. Don’t get tempted by unhealthy fry food from the canteen. Canteen food are bad and a waste.

END. of course not.. will add more later as I’m rushing to sleep and yes this reminds me of

11. Sleep before 11 pm on weekdays.

12. Reach school before 7:05 a.m. on weekdays.

END. see above

So a quick January list:

1. Redecorate my NEW room since JM is going away.

2. Study for St John exam.

3. Send “thank you”s emails to AFS Japan and Malaysia

So, good night and sweet dreams and happy schooling to everyone!

Don’t want to break No. 11.

Midnight Post

It’s 3.18 a.m. now

And I’ve finally sent my AFS essay after days of cracking my head for ideas.

Marvien must think that I’m crazy to send him an email at such hour.

Today Yesterday was a fulfilling day because I’ve ironed and sort out all the clothes for 5 people in the house. Soproudofmyself =)

Tomorrow  Later I’m gonna wake up and reorganize my life. I shold start keeping and sorting out (again) all my souveneirs from Japan.

So, good night? Or shall i say Good Morning?

p/s: someone important is having his birthday on the last day of 2011. Hopefully I won’t forget it!!

I was in “Egyp…

I was in “Egypt” for 3 days,

And then I went to Japan for a fortnight,

and came back searching for a Japanese song for 4 days, and finally found out what was it at 9:47 a.m today,

which then became the happiest thing that ever occurred before taking my PMR result.

And then I went home getting addicted to flumpool and The Sims 3 (again) completed with expansion packs in Chinese version,

and now I’m lazy to blog or even upload pictures from the Jenesys trip on Facebook,

And I’m back in Malaysia. Will miss you Japan. =)

What I’ve done since

150911

1. I crammed everything into my head and I’m finally over with PMR.

2. Then I started to laze aound…

3. Watched movies in the cinema for the past few weeks.

4. Ok, U can laugh at me because I went to school occasionally (hmm.. at least 2 times a week) and had a lifeless school life ( except when i got to re-read Detective Conan, played RISK and discovered that my friend had a SPONGEBOB! edition Monopoly with the Krusty Krab as the most expensive lot.)

5. Immersed myself in the world of Sidney Sheldon ( and I once upon a time thought that he was a woman). Anyway I still loved his books!

6. Watched Protect The Boss  and get to see a lot of Kim Jae Joong

7. Started craving for “The Hunger Games” book set, after I read the plot from Wikipedia

8. Continued to read Bleach Manga because the boring part is finally over and the interesting part has finally begun

9. Started to watch Season 3 of Shakugan no Shana. Hooray it’s finally here after a LONG wait. I mean years.

1o. Received letters and e mails form AFS and preparing for the trip. I gotta brush up my Japanese language.

11. Practiced piano ( the hardcore way = 3 hours everyday) but my enthusiasm seems to be lost after a week. ( which means I need to practice at least 5 hours for now)

12. Attended VBS meetings, preparing for the 3 days camp. Yeah, I’ll be handling a lot of little kids and this is not me. I’m anti-social. ( I don’t like to be surrounded by strangers )hehh!

13. Checking my inbox everyday hoping for an email from my host family. Oh please, please, PLEASE!

14. And yeah, many things happened… time comes and goes and I’ve finally realized that I NEED MORE TIME.

15. Left my blog to rot until now.

So, WHAT’S NEXT?

1. Learn to ride a bycicle.

2. Revise my Japanese like how I studied for PMR

3. Practice the piano until I’m sastified with all my pieces since 251111 is not far away

4. Prepare for JENESYS…. (the most complicating, tiring one)

5. Anime, novels, all pushed aside!! I need to focus on the above for items.

So, that’s for now, maybe write my review on The Adventures of Tintin, The Three Musketeers and Tower Heist.

P/S : Here’s a post, sis JM. AND GOOD LUCK FOR SPM.

pp/s: I WANT TO WATCH MERLIN!!!

I think I’ll better start to make a list of  ”what to do after PMR”.

So, no more posts for this month.

Gonna get myself buckled up for 4/10/11

So now, a gentle reminder to myself, in case I forgot:

Change my blog theme. Just spotted a new theme from wordpress :  Selecta.
